The young men are identified with the business interests of Scott county to no little degree. They are the new blood which fills the commercial veins and causes the pulse to throb in unison with the great heart of the business world. One such is the subject of this sketch, J.F. Richardson, who was born at Lynnville, Morgan county, Illinois, August 29, 1865. Until he was twelve years of age he resided in that place, but in 1877 the family moved to Scott county and settled on a farm one mile east of Riggston. His education, both the practical and theoretical part of, it was acquired in Scott county. It is needless to say that the lessons have been well learned. Previous to 1890 Mr. Richardson lived and worked on the farm. He was careful and cautious in all that he did and the habits of economy, order and system which had, by instinct and long usage, become almost a part of his nature, have stood him well in hand since he embarked upon the seas of commercialism. In 1890, on February 1, he came to Riggston and commenced business as a general merchant.
December 30, 1900, he was married to Miss Helen E. Morris of Merritt, and to them on child, a daughter, Jessie Alma Richardson, has been born. Mr. Richardson is thoroughly identified with the business interests of Riggston and that part of Scott county. He knows the people for miles about that village and knows their wants. By them he has stood in their hour of need and from them he has received a generous patronage. He has been honest and true, rendering "unto Caesar" the things which were Caesar's, and "unto God" the things which were God's. The years of his life have not been many but in the brief span he has won the confidence of his associates and the respect of the community at large.
