A. J. REDSHAW

Mr. Redshaw was born on Apple Pie ridge, in Scott county, Illinois. November 8, 1861. He was reared upon the farm and he was early trained in the ways of industry, economy and frugality. His education was carefully looked after and when he reached his majority he was well fitted to fill a yeoman's place in the struggle for bread. March 17, 1886, he was married to Miss Julia F. Sappington, daughter of James and Levina Sappington. To them two children have been born - one son, Harlan, and one daughter, Lola.

Mr. Redshaw has been a farmer all his life, but at present devotes considerable attention to stockraising. He lives on the state road, about one mile west of Merritt, at which place he has lived nearly all his life with the exception of one year, 1874, spent in Macoupin county. He owns a fine farm of 132 acres and his land lies in one of the most fertile sections of the county. He is the leading democrat in Merritt precinct; belongs to a class of citizens for which Scott county is noted, namely - honest, enterprising, industrious, prosperous young farmers, for whom the world is full of promise and life a reality, filled with possibilities which, though untold and untried, are inviting.
