Welcome to the Ford-Iroquois-Kankakee County Genealogy Mail List.

This list is for the discussion of any matter related to genealogy in Ford, Iroquois, or Kankakee counties here in Illinois. There are many lists for genealogy tied to a single county, but it seemed natural here to have a list which included all three of these counties.

You may subscribe to this list in either standard or digest mode.

In standard mode, each e-mail sent to the list will be sent to you one at a time. Subscribe by sending an e-mail to
ILFORD-L-request@rootsweb.com. Write "subscribe" (without the quotation marks) in the body of the message. Do not include a subject and make sure there is no signature. Be sure to include your entire internet address, for example, archgenealogist@aol.com.

In digest mode, several e-mails are combined and sent to you in one large message. Subscribe by following the directions for subscribing to the standard list, but send the e-mail to
ILFORD-D-request@rootsweb.com.

Guidelines for Messages

Do not send spam e-mail messages to mailing lists.
Do not send attachments (attached files) of any sort to mailing lists. This includes URL shortcuts, v-cards, GEDCOM files, zipped files, and any other type of attachment.
Do not forward virus hoaxes or chain letters to mailing lists.
Do not use HTML or RTF (rich text format) in messages sent to mailing lists.
Do not cross-post messages to multiple mailing lists on the "To:" line or the "Cc:" line of the e-mail message.
Do not send e-mail messages to mailing lists for which the topic is inappropriate.
Do not flame other members of the mailing list.
Be nice to one another.

Send a message to the list

To post a message so everyone on the mailing list receives it, first, you have to be subscribed to the list. Then, just send it to
ILFORD-L@rootsweb.com. It will then be sent on to everyone in both standard and digest mode. You don't need to send it explicitly to both.

When you send a message to this list, Please do not use HTML, RTF, or Styled text. For more information, see How to turn off HTML or RTF in Various e-mail programs.

If you are writing a reply to a letter which you received from the list, consider whether you wish to send your reply to the person who wrote the letter or if you want to send your reply to the entire list. Double check how your reply is addressed to ensure it will be sent to whom you wish.

See the Historical and Genealogical Event Calendar! This calendar is for events in Ford, Iroquois, and Kankakee counties of a historical or genealogical nature. Family reunions welcome! Post your event here. BIG events in surrounding area may be posted. Inappropriate events will be deleted. You may include links in an event description if you use the
<a href="http://URL">Link Description</a> format.

Search the List

To search the list, go to RootsWeb Mailing Lists -- Interactive Search and enter ILFORD in the text box. On the following page, follow the directions for entering your search criteria.

To view the threaded archives, register (if you have not already done so,) then view the archive.

Unsubscribe

To unsubscribe, send a message to
ILFORD-L-request@rootsweb.com if you are in standard mode or
ILFORD-D-request@rootsweb.com if you are in digest mode. Write "unsubscribe" (without the quotation marks) in the body of the message. Do not include any subject and make sure any signatures are not included.

Switch List Mode

To switch from standard mode to digest mode or vice-versa, follow the directions above to unsubscribe from the mode to which you are currently subscribed and then subscribe to your desired mode.

NOMAIL

There is no NOMAIL mode. If you wish to receive no messages for a interval, if, for instance, you are going on vacation, please unsubscribe to discontinue and subscribe to resume your messages.
