Johnson County
Iowa is located in the fourth tier of
counties north of the Iowa-Missouri line and in the third row west of
the Mississippi River. It is bordered on the north by Linn, on the west by
Iowa, on the east by Cedar and Muscatine and on the south by
Washington and Louisa counties. The boundaries of Johnson County were
fixed and approved 21 December 1837 according to the laws of Wisconsin
Territory of which Iowa was then a part. The county was organized in
the fall of 1838 following authorization of the newly
organized Territory by Governor Lucas.

Iowa GenWeb
Information In March and April, 1996, a group of genealogists
organized the Kentucky Comprehensive Genealogy Database Project. The idea
was to provide a single entry point for all counties in Kentucky where
collected databases would be stored. In addition, the databases would be
indexed and cross-linked, so that even if an individuals were found in
more than one county, they could be located in the index. The Iowa GenWeb
Project is an outgrowth of that original Kentucky
project.
County pages are
hosted by volunteers who coordinate the collection of databases and
generally oversee the contents of their web pages. This Johnson County
page is sponsored by the Iowa City Genealogical
Society.
