Julian Notes: From Kyle Dalton
sawbones489@hotmail.com
Michael Julian and his brothers (Alfred and Samuel Julian) and cousin (Robert)
came to California in search of gold with their cousin Dru Bailey (3rd Georgia
Cavalry). Dru Bailey found gold and founded a city which was later considered
for the Capital city of California. Of course, that honor went to Sacramento,
and the city dwindled with its supply of gold to a small town that it is
today. That town is Julian California, named for Michael who they considered
a hero of the war. Michael Julian was popular in Southern California and
was elected San Diego County Assessor in 1871 he did not like the job and
didn't run for reelection in 1873. Mike Julian died in 1905, after a long
successful life. -Kyle Dalton
