Excellence In Writing / Entry Information

ISFHWE  sponsors an annual competition for published and unpublished writers.  You must be a member of ISFHWE in order to participate in the contest.  As an all-volunteer organization, ISFHWE's membership fees help support the annual contest and provide funds for the awards.   The contest is judged by professionals in the field of journalism and genealogy.

The annual competition was begun in 1989 (by what was then the Council of Genealogical Columnists) to encourage high standards in genealogy journalism. Previously the categories judged by professionals in the field of journalism and genealogy included local genealogy and history, columns of general interest, columns on ethnic subjects, and columns that appeared in magazines and journals. Competition in one category is  open to "would-be" writers.
