Charter
This is an unmoderated group intended for the discussion of genealogy and like topics relating to Australia, New Zealand and their respective territories. All postings to the newsgroup are copied to the mailing list and vice versa.

Rationale
Family history research is not limited to any one country of origin nor is it confined to ethnic bounds or national borders, but the research _is_ dependent upon history and records found within national systems and regional boundaries. Those records can be State, religious, civil, military, private, public, monumental, personal or other such records, most of which may be found in the country wherein they were originated. It then seems logical to provide an avenue of research and discussion within a forum particular to any one country, or group of related countries.
Australia and New Zealand share similar cultural, historical and political developments. The history of these developments is unique to the two nations with respect to the time, geographic location and, in the early years of colonisation, isolation. Since settlement, there has been continuous migration between these countries, and from other countries. Because there is much in common with Australia and New Zealand genealogy and research interests, it seems reasonable to conduct discussions in the one group. Separate groups can be formed if and as traffic and interest warrant.
