Stabbed to death on the Saanich rd, near Dr Tolmie's house, Jul 21, 1860, Edmund Simonds. Stabbed by George Snelling...Jul 24, 2; Jul 26, 3 - Inquest; Jul 28, 3...with malice aforethought. [Colonist, 1860-07-19*]

Died at his residence, Rose Hill Farm, Saanich, Vancouver Island, Nov 28 , 1862, Richard Cheeseman, aged 42... He leaves a wife and 4 children to lament his loss. Friends and acquaintances are respectfully invited to attend his funeral from the bridge near residence of R Finlayson, Esq, at 12:30, or at Christ Church at 1pm. [Colonist, 1862-11-12*]

Married at South Saanich, Vancouver Island, Jul 31, 1864, Edward R Thomas to Frances A Byrnes. [Colonist, 1864-07-23*]

Died at Fry's Hotel, Saanich, Vancouver Island, Oct 17, 1864, Captain Albermarle Bertie Cator, only Son of late Admiral Cator, of Her/His Majesty's Ship, aged 38. Funeral from Fry's Hotel, Saanich, and at the bridge, foot of Douglas st. Deceased was formerly in the army, and came to this colony about 15 months ago. By the death of his father he was heir to considerable property in England. Cause of death is said to have been epilepsy. [Colonist, 1864-10-17*]

Married at South Saanich, Vancouver Island, Nov 1, 1864, Francis Valentine T Lee, Esq, late of Caynham Crt, Shropshire, England to Frances A Byrnes, Daughter of late Thomas Byrnes, Esq, of Sydney. [Colonist, 1864-11-01*]

Died at Saanich, Vancouver Island, Nov 20, 1864, Ambrose, Son of John/Frances Maria Stevens, aged 3m, 15d. Funeral from his father's residence, Saanich Rd. [Colonist, 1864-11-21*]

Died at North Saanich, Vancouver Island, Dec 10, 1864, Emma Mary, aged 5y, 3m, Daughter of John/Frances Marie Stevens. Funeral from St John's Church, Douglas st. [Colonist, 1864-12-07*]

Dead body of Richard Smith, an old settler who resides a short distance off Saanich rd, between Swan Lake and Royal Oak was found lying on the trail leading to his house. Deceased had a severe wound on his head, by his side lay his horse also a corpse, and his wagon turned upside down, the presumption being that the unfortunate man upset the vehicle, killing himself and horse. Inquest held Bayley's, Royal Oak tavern [see Nov 23, 3]. [Colonist, 1865-11-22]

Died at Saanich, British Columbia, Oct 29, 1868, after a long and painful illness, Mrs John Stevens. Funeral from Stevens' house, Saanich rd. [Colonist, 1868-10-29*]

Died accidentally at South Saanich, British Columbia, Mar 5, 1869, Son of Mr Thompson, aged 9. It appears that the lad was driving a cart home across a field, and from some sudden jolt was thrown to the ground, when the wheel of the cart passed over his head causing instant death. Married Jan 7, 1870, by Rev Thomas Somerville, Church of Scotland, James Thomas McIlmoyl, farmer, North Saanich, to Mary Ann, eldest Daughter of Henry Simpson, farmer, South Saanich, British Columbia. [Colonist, 1870-01-07*]

Died at Saanich, British Columbia residence of W H Jackson, Jan 27, 1870, of consumption, John Johnson, aged 54, Native of Baltimore, Md. [Colonist, 1870-01-30*]
